Free Homeschooling Resources from Hoagies Gifted

I’ve been going through my links for free and low-cost educational resources, and I thought I’d blog about one of the more extensive collections that I’ve found: Hoagies’ Gifted Education Page

The fine folks at Hoagies have gathered links to all kinds of outstanding FREE educational resources! (And they are not just for students traditionally considered “gifted”, either. There are materials that would appeal to just about everyone.) You can start, for example, on their Internet Investigations page. This section houses all kinds of free lesson plans, resources, and ideas, all available online. Every time I go there I find something else interesting. This morning I found Philosophy for Children, a website that shows you how to use children’s literature, including picture books, to explore philosophical questions with young people. It includes ideas for thinking about courage, jealousy, fear, and much more, and it even walks you through various questions for each book that you can ask your children to help them get started thinking about all these ideas with you. How cool!

If you’re looking for interesting things to hang up on the walls, visit Hoagies’ Free Materials for Classrooms page. This page lists educational resources that teachers (and in many cases homeschoolers) can request for free. For example, there is a series of DVD’s and posters about women scientists, and there is also a poster series from the EPA, as well as resources on banking and economics that you can get from the Federal Reserve, plus much more.

Finally, there is a real bonanza for those of you who have high schoolers: Hoagies Free Online High School Courses and Curriculum Materials. This page includes links to an astounding array of English, Math, Science, and History courses, plus much more. All are available online, and all are FREE. This page lists courses complete with lesson plans and many additional resources. You can also look at their Free Online Text Resources – This page has links to many books and textbooks available online for free, as well.

Happy surfing!
